Pregnancy Update: 17 Weeks

How Far Along: 17 weeks

What is Baby G Up To?: Baby G is the size of an onion. He or she is turning cartilage into bone and putting on some fat. It really is crazy when you think about all the growth that is happening, especially from the first few weeks. Baby G is now a proportional baby in that his or her arms and legs are in proportion to it’s head and body. From here, her or she will just grow!

How I’m Feeling: Tired. I make it through the work week okay, but when I hit the weekend, all I want to do is sleep. I’ll take exhausted over sick every time, but I’m just not used to having to take naps to make it through the day. I haven’t taken a sip of coffee since week 6, so my caffeine intake is non-existent. That may be good for the baby, but it’s not great for my productivity. I also haven’t been working out as much as I would like to, which is probably another reason I’m not feeling energized. Juneau and I did take a long walk yesterday though, and I felt great afterwards.

What I’m Wearing: Still fitting into my own clothes, but I did buy a pair of maternity jeans this weekend. The day is coming, and coming soon.

What’s On My Mind Lately: I can’t believe I’m 17 weeks! That’s nearly halfway! May always seemed sooo far away, but after the holidays we will be in the 20s! Time is flying.

What I’m Craving: Carbs – pasta, bread, bagels, potato chips. Don’t worry Mom, I eat my fruits and veggies, too! I just don’t crave them 🙂

What I’m Looking Forward To: Still looking forward to Christmas break. Eight more work days!

Best Moment of the Week: I announced my pregnancy at work on Friday at our holiday party. I thought everyone would have known since I think I look pregnant, but the majority of folks were surprised. It was pretty cute!

Our Belizean Honeymoon

belize honeymoon

David and I had been planning our trip to Belize long before our wedding in July. We initially thought we should go just after our wedding, but after some research we realized that our trip to paradise was better off in the wintertime. Why? Belize temperatures never dip below the high-70s and the water temperature is a cool 72 degrees year round. We knew that by the time winter rolled around, we’d be itching for some nice weather.

From the moment we touched down in Belize City, we were greeted with huge smiles and friendly faces wanting to help. Belize is a beautiful paradise, but not as popular for Americans to vacation to as say Cancun or Jamaica. Because of this, we felt the authenticity of the culture the entire time we were there.

We flew into Belize City early Friday morning and then hopped on a 10-seater plane to an island known as Ambergris Caye. We then took a boat to our lodge, El Pescador – or The Fisherman – and was met on the dock by a smiling Marlin, our host for the week. We stayed in a newly renovated lodge complete with three pools, a full bar and beach access. In total, about forty people stayed at the resort with us and we ate family-style each night so we got to know the other guests quite well.

David found El Pescador through his fly-fishing circle. At first I was hesitant that I was being dragged along on a fishing trip, but the truth is it was the perfect place to be. David would wake up early, long before me, and head to the lagoons just walking distance from the lodge. He would fish until he knew I was awake and then join me for breakfast. Then each day we planned an activity. One day we took a golf cart to The Secret Beach, just on the other side of the island. Another day we went snorkeling on the second largest barrier reef in the world. We went swimming with sharks and rays, too. It was absolutely breathtaking, and one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. We went paddleboarding and kayaking, and finally on the last day, I told David I need to just relax, so I sat by the pool why he scoured the lagoons for more fish.

We also took one day to go out with a guide fly fishing. Belize is known for the Big 3 Fish: tarpon, permit and bonefish. Anglers from all over the world go to Belize in search of those fish. We both were able to catch bonefish, although David caught many more and much bigger ones than I did, and David also fought with a tarpon until he landed it. It was so great to watch him smile so big after he caught the fish!

It’s been a while since I went on a vacation and felt at home the entire time. We weren’t even there for two days before we started planning our return trip! Who’s joining us next time?img_9460-1024x768

Pregnancy Update: 16 Weeks

When I first found out I was pregnant, I went through a bit of a grieving period. David and I just got married! I wasn’t ready for this! But as time went by, I soon realized that no one is ever ready for these huge life-changing things. We are truly blessed that we were able to get pregnant so easily. We are now at a point where we can’t stop talking about it. Maybe it’s because we kept it a secret for so long, or because I’m finally showing, or because we are just really that excited.

I’ve decided that this is a perfect life event to blog about. I spoke with David about it, and we decided that even if no one cares or keeps up with our journey, this will be a wonderful thing to look back on and remember all the little details of our first pregnancy.

How Far Along: 16 weeks

What is Baby G Up To?: Baby Gregory is the size of an avocado. )It’s really funny, and not scientific at all, that most pregnancy websites/apps compare your baby to a food item. Last week Baby G was the size of an orange, which I typically think of as bigger than an avocado, but we will go with it.) He or she is growing hair, taste buds and can hear our voices and the sounds outside the belly. We had a doctor’s appointment last week and heard the heartbeat for the third time and along with it, a few bumps proving Baby G is quite active. I’m not surprised as he or she is half David, who just does not slow down!

How I’m Feeling: Like myself. There are times throughout the day where I actually have to remind myself that I’m pregnant. I still feel like I just look a little overstuffed, but I realize more and more that my clothes are getting tighter and people are starting to ask. I’ve been able to feel the baby flutter a bit in my belly, which is super strange, but I have to be in a very specific position to feel it. Usually at my desk at work, when I’m least expecting it. I’m always hungry, but I have energy to workout a bit. I’ve realized I’m not going to be running any marathons anytime soon because I become short of breath far quicker than I ever have before. I still get super exhausted and have been going to bed hours before my normal bedtime, but overall, I feel good.

What I’m Wearing: I’m still in my own clothes. I put aside a pair of tights after wearing them last week and realizing they are just a tad too tight nowadays. I know the maternity clothes are just a few weeks away.

What’s On My Mind Lately: Well, Belize was an awesome distraction from work and everyday life. Since getting back, David and I have slowly been decorating for Christmas and starting to shop for gifts. Christmas really snuck up on us this year. We haven’t really slowed down since the wedding!

What I’m Craving: Well, I went through a baked potato phase, and then spent $15 on chicken salad because I needed it so badly. I almost cried over ravioli a few weeks back because the closest grocery store didn’t sell what I wanted, so I had David drive to the middle of town to find some for me. (He’s awesome). Nowadays I’m craving potato chips and milk — not at the same time, but still, so weird.

What I’m Looking Forward To: Christmas break! I can’t wait to spend 10 days in New York with my family. We are going to do our registry with my mom while we are up there, too. Counting the days.

Best Moment of the Week: Life – just being in Belize. So beautiful. Baby – of course hearing the heartbeat again. Plus we found out we can learn the sex in early January. A belated Christmas gift 🙂

Baby on Board

baby announcement

Finally! The secrets out!

David and I found out we were expecting wayyy back in mid-September. He was on a fishing trip over the weekend, and when he came back on Sunday night, he brought with him some home pregnancy tests. We just had a feeling… and we were right. I took FOUR pregnancy tests that night, just to make sure. It’s a strange feeling realizing that you’re pregnant. I immediately thought of everything I was doing wrong. “Oh no! I had a beer last night with dinner!” “I haven’t been taking prenatal vitamins!”

The moment David and I realized we were going to have a baby was nothing like what you see in the movies. We weren’t jumping around, crying with joy. In fact, we stared at each other, terrified, and immediately drove to his parent’s house for some guidance.

We told our families that night. It just felt strange to have a secret from my sisters and my mom and dad. They were all thrilled, of course. I still felt terrified. We had just found out weeks before that my older sister was expecting as well. I remember her calling me and feeling relieved that the pressure was off! I could wait as long as we needed. But like they say, when you make plans, God laughs and makes his own.

I would be lying if I said my entire pregnancy was beautiful and exciting so far. It took me about three weeks to fully grasp onto the fact that there was a baby growing inside me. I still don’t think I can truly wrap my head around it. Mix those feelings with the yuckiness of the first trimester… ugh, those were some tough weeks.

Now, though, I’m feeling much more like myself. With the exception of my clothes fitting tighter and having a strong aversion to coffee (I miss it so much!), I’m feeling good. I’ve even kept up a semi-normal exercise routine, although much more limited since I get out of breath just walking up the stairs to our apartment.

I’m currently 15 weeks and 5 days. I’ve started to show a bit and people at work have been guessing that something is up! David and I talked long ago about announcing the pregnancy while in Belize, and it was the perfect place to do it! We had a prenatal checkup this morning and everything is going smoothly. As the doctor put it, we are on cruise control right now. I’m so excited to see my family in a few weeks and spend the holidays with them. I can’t believe that 2015 is nearly over. What a crazy year for the Gregorys!

Wedding Photos: Bride and Groom

wedding photos bride groom

I think it goes without saying that some of my absolute favorite wedding photos from our wedding day are of just David and I. We laugh now because I keep saying I don’t think I looked anywhere but at him for the majority of the day. I wanted to soak up every little moment we shared together. It was strange waking up without him that morning, and going until 4:30pm without even a text message. We are usually always in contact so it took a lot of discipline to not talk to him.

It was worth the wait! I can’t imagine a more beautiful day, a more beautiful setting, and a more handsome groom. I think I’ve used up enough reasons to continue to post wedding photos on here, but I think I saved the best for last. I love the photos of just us. I think they capture our love perfectly!

Thanks again to our wonderful photographer, Rajaa of I Romanticize, for her beautiful pictures!znmudsvmdunnu_-qgxdzhn08jtg0_ikiyigg7hqsd4
